The strategic competition between the United States and China over key currencies is expected to become a hot topic in the post-corona period.

Lee Yong-wook, professor of political science and diplomacy at Korea University expressed his point of view during a seminar on “Post-corona era Changes and Responses in Korean society: International Development and Finance” held at Korea University College of Political Sciences and Economics on December 1st.

China has openly expressed its ambition to make the yuan a global key currency similar to the dollar. This means that the competition between the US and China for leadership on international currency will intensify after the COVID-19 period.
