Who Governs the Local Government?

In today’s presentation, which was an interim conference for the <Korean Power Map> project, professor Jae Hyeok Shin(Political Science & International Relations Dept., Korea University) explained the purpose of the study and presented the results of the analysis of regionalism and school relations of all candidates(including 4,639 losers) for the 1st to 6th local elections. Analysis showed that 1) the candidates with strong regionalism and school ties are likely to be elected(the candidates’ region of birth, primary/high school ties were generally higher than failed candidates), 2) effect of regionalism and school relations were more powerful in the capital area, and 3) influence of the region and school did not diminish over time.
