Professor Gaikwad works at Columbia University on political economy, including immigration, trade, and identity politics.

The paper explores how the economic experience of migrant workers affects political attitudes. The sample used in the study was about 380 subjects of overseas labor employment programs living in Mizoram state, India. Half of the 380 people who were randomly drawn benefited from the job application program. The paper analyzes the impact of the economic experience of ‘benefit from the employment support program’ on ‘attitude to distribution policy’. In this paper, Professor Gaikwad found that individuals who acquired economic opportunities had less support for distribution policies.
