이번 강연은 권위주의적 가치관이 음모론 신념에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지, 그리고 정보 환경과 교육 수준이 그 관계를 어떻게 강화하거나 약화시키는지에 관한 Edmund Cheng 교수님의 연구 내용을 중점적으로 다룰 예정입니다. Cheng 교수님은 6개 국가를 대상으로 한 대규모 설문조사와 인과 분석을 통해, 권위주의적 성향을 가진 사람일수록 음모론을 더 강하게 믿는 경향이 있으며, 놀랍게도 대학 교육이나 다양한 정보 접근이 이를 완화하기보다는 오히려 강화하는 측면이 있다는 점을 밝혀냈습니다. 다만, 연구는 동시에 비판적 이해력 향상이 이러한 사고방식을 완화할 수 있는 중요한 열쇠임을 보여줍니다. 이번 강연은 극단화와 정보 과잉의 시대에 우리가 직면한 정치적 심리 메커니즘을 이해하는 데에 큰 도움이 될 것입니다. 관심 있는 분들의 많은 참여를 부탁드립니다!

Edmund W. Cheng is a Professor in the Department of Public and International Affairs at the City University of Hong Kong, where he co-directs the Centre for Public Affairs and Law and the Advanced Methods School at the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. His research interests include political sociology, public opinion, digital governance, and the science of science, focusing on the comparative study of Asia. His recent work has appeared in Perspectives on Politics, Political Communication, Political Psychology, Political Studies, Governance, Information, Communication & Society, New Media & Society, Social Science Research, Sociological Methodology, China Quarterly, and China Journal. He is the co-author of The Making of Leaderful Mobilization (Cambridge University Press, 2025).
