A Joint Proposal to comprehensively Resolve the Problems caused by the Past between Korea and Japan

The Center for Reconciliation and Cooperation in East and the International Reconciliation Institute of Waseda University signed an MOU on July 3, 2019 to conduct joint research to realize ‘harmony’ between the peoples of East Asia, including Korea and Japan. Based on the common understanding that the current situation of escalating conflict between Korea and Japan is not desirable, the two agencies announced a joint proposal on how to comprehensively address the historical issues between Korea and Japan. [Reconciliation Forum] Meaning and Role of Civil Exchange for the reconciliation of South and North Korea

Beyond the distrust-based ‘conflicting politics’, we are on the path to a reconciliation-based ‘politics of cooperation’. The Korea University Peace and Democracy Institute has established the “Reconciliation Forum” in order to find practical policy alternatives that will not only lead to reconciliation but also lead to substantial improvement in relations. • Date: Fri, May 18, 2018 19:00-21:00 • Venue: 618, Political Science & Economics Bldg., Korea University • Organized by: The Tomorrow Association, Center for the Study of Political Leadership In today’s presentation, which was an interim conference for the <Korean Power Map> project, professor Jae Hyeok Shin(Political Science & International Relations Dept., Korea University) explained the purpose of the study and presented the results of the analysis of regionalism and school relations of all candidates(including 4,639 losers) for the 1st to 6th local elections. Analysis showed that 1) the candidates with strong regionalism and school ties are likely to be elected(the candidates’ region of birth, primary/high school ties were generally higher than failed candidates), 2) effect of regionalism and school relations were more powerful in the capital area, and 3) influence of the region and school did not diminish over time.
